Aisha Baker, PhD

I describe myself as… affirming, warm, empathic, and inquisitive.

Why I work with healthcare professionals: Most of my work as a psychologist has been spent in VA medical centers and clinics. This work has allowed me to witness the profound impact their work has on healthcare providers and underscored the importance of providing them with dedicated mental health support.

I’m passionate about… working with clients to address symptoms related to anxiety and trauma-related disorders; offering tools for managing stress; supporting clients in coping with grief and loss; and treating sleep concerns.

I also enjoy working with military Veterans, and I have years of experience working with Veterans.

You might like working with me if… you value a supportive and direct therapist. You can expect a safe and supportive environment where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. I approach each interaction with curiosity and empathy. We will work to set realistic and achievable goals, and we will develop structured plans to achieve them. We will build on your strengths and address limiting beliefs, fostering an increase in self-confidence and self-efficacy.

My theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive behavioral. I help my clients to gain awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We use that awareness to empower clients and help them bring about changes in how they feel. I incorporate mindfulness training in my work with clients. I also recognize that culture plays a significant role in how we relate to the world around us, how others relate to us, and how we experience symptoms.

As a psychologist, my goal is to give clients the tools to address any problems and concerns that are preventing them from being able to be present for the things that are most important to them.

When not working… I enjoy reading, trying new recipes, binge-watching my favorite series of the moment, and spending time with my husband and stepdaughter.
